It dawned on me today that I did not tell you about the bake sale we organised two weeks ago to commemorate Valentine’s Day. Looking back at a few posts from last year, you may remember that as well as being a law student, I am also Vice-President of the UNICEF On Campus society. So, as it is Friday, this February’s Flashback Friday will update you on the Valentine’s Day Bake Sale.
First things first, I am proud to announce that my baking skills have improved – finally! My friends and I, once again, attempted to ‘bake up a storm’ and create a variety of treats in order to spread the love on Valentine’s Day. I was in charge of making chocolate cupcakes and I was incredibly determined to improve on the chocolate disasters that were created on Halloween. There were many who doubted whether, with me in charge, the cupcakes would even rise, let alone be edible. Nevertheless, I was really pleased that the final result was actually not so bad at all! Yet, this was not the only success in the kitchen that evening, as my friends made some amazing cookies and rice krispie treats that were so delicious, it was a Valentine’s miracle that they made it to the bake sale.
Unfortunately, it does appear that my friends and I appear to have a foe in the form of icing. After the events from Halloween, I was kept far away from the ‘icing and decorating table’ with the aim that I did not recreate another masterpiece resembling Dulux orange paint. Nonetheless, my friends appeared to have a battle on their hands… however after a few hours I am glad to say that they eventually won! 😉
Overall, the event was another great success where we were able to raise over £150 for UNICEF UK. The UNICEF on Campus society is one of many at the University of Leicester. Societies and clubs are a brilliant part of University life that I urge everyone to get involved in.
If you are interested in learning more about the societies the University of Leicester has to offer, please check out the Students Union website and a post I did last year about societies and clubs.

Until next time…
