What is Varsity?

Last week marked the end of a very successful Varsity Season for the University of Leicester. For anybody who does not know, ‘varsity’ or a varsity match is simply a sports match between two rival University teams.

At the University of Leicester, we have a very fierce city rivalry with De Montford University where, every year, various sports teams from each Uni face each other to determine which University is the best. This year, there were 48 matches across 10 days and the buzz on campus during Varsity season was electric! If you think I am exaggerating, take a look at this video to see how serious Team Leicester were about the highlight of Leicester Uni’s sporting calendar!

Team Leicester’s amazing Men’s Rugby Team playing at the Leicester Tiger’s Stadium!

My friends and I seemed to catch the Varsity bug and we attended the Rugby match which marked the Varsity finale last Wednesday at the Leicester Tiger’s Stadium. I am happy to report that Team Leicester destroyed DMU with the Women’s Team winning 14-0 and the Men’s Team winning 26-6. It was a brilliant finish where Team Leicester retained the City and won Varsity 2014!
