Another week means another story so here it goes…
It was the first week of November and the Law Society had once again organised a brilliantly ridiculous amount of events taking place.
Before I carry on, I have to let you know that this society is, quite frankly, infamous on campus for their incredible proactivity in the way that they organise an array of events, training and information sessions for the hundreds of budding law students who have their eyes set on careers within the legal sector. The fact that they do this is incredibly helpful as is enables us students to be able to clearly understand the wide and diverse depths of the legal world.
Nonetheless, during this week, the two events that had caught my eye were the ‘Legal Meet & Greet’ and the annual ‘Law Fair.’ Both of these events allowed law students, from any year, to be able to meet various legal professions from different practices and backgrounds and was an incredibly useful experience as it allowed me to find out more about the various avenues you can take.
Personally, the highlight of the week was that I was able to meet a variety of barristers at the ‘Legal Meet & Greet’ who were able to give me a more clearer indication of the various skills and experience they expect from prospective pupillage applicants.
As I am in my third and final year, I admit I have had the lucky (but equally daunting) pleasure of being able to meet many professionals and I feel that I am at a stage where I have the confidence to engage with them. The best advice that I can give to any prospective law student when meeting any legal professional, is to simply relax, be your usually polite and charming self and make sure you showcase that you have an interest in law and that you want to be there!
