The following is aimed at giving you the low-down on the student nights which you are likely to become familiar with during your time at the University of Leicester.
Monday nights are boogied away at Club Republic at their weekly event ‘Quids In’. As the name suggests drinks and entry are £1 before midnight. This year the most time I’ve spent in the vicinity of Club Republic has been when I walk past it on my way from the bus station into Uni on my daily commute. In previous years however, I would regard nights at Republic to have been some of my favourites. This week they are hosting a ’90’s Fun House Regression Session’ fully equipped with ball pit and bouncy castle; just to give you a flavour of what you can expect from a Monday night out in Leicester.
Wednesday’s = LETSDISKO! This night is actually a new one on me because when I was a fresher Wednesday nights were called Red Leicester (one of my all time favourite cheeses) and home to the cheesiest tunes. LETSDISKO features ‘classic student anthems’, the perfect cure for those mid-week blues and takes place at the O2 Academy on campus which is great. Wednesday is also society and sports night, which means that socials for various groups commonly take place on a Wednesday night. This week, LETSDISKO will be hosting the ‘Freshers’ Showdown 2016: Battle of the Halls’ where members of the various student halls will battle it out in a number of games throughout the night, with a winning halls being crowned at the end of the night.
Next up is ‘The Thursday Club’ at Candy’s, another club located in the city centre. Candy’s has one room for current club and chart music and another room for RnB.
And last but not least, Friday nights are home to Shabang and the pun ‘Tomorrow I’ll have a Shabangover’. A classic club night complete with dancers and the odd giveaway, such as this weeks 4th generation Apple TV giveaway.
So there you have it, a quick overview of some of the student nights you may come to experience as a Uni of Leicester student.
