This Thursday I am scheduled to meet with a careers adviser to have my CV reviewed and get some advice before I hit send on that all important application form.
I have used the service before to have a CV I wrote in preparation for an exclusive networking event in London checked. The advice I was given was incredibly useful. I have applied my career adviser’s guidance to every CV I have written since and chalk my success down to their pointers.
Before the meeting you are asked to complete the preparation material relevant to the topic you wish to discuss during your appointment; this is so that you can get the most out of it as it prompts you to identify the specific issues that you would like your adviser to help you with. I haven’t reviewed the ‘master copy’ of my CV in full since last summer and so it is definitely in need of a spring clean.
The career development service offer a range of appointment types; from general career guidance including advice on how to gain relevant work experience to mock interview and assessment appointments. You can check out their website for access to resources and information on what the Career Development Service has to offer.
I would definitely recommend making use of the service during your time at University.
