Hello everyone! I hope everyone is doing well. A little recap from my previous post, I had mentioned that I plan on working on my dissertation over the summer holidays. The plan is still on and I would like to briefly elaborate on why it is a good idea to plan your dissertation over the course of your summer and what you could do if you do indeed plan on doing it.
Your dissertation is an opportunity for you to write a piece of academic work on a topic you are passionate about. A successful dissertation demonstrates your potential ability to produce a detailed and well-thought research to potential employers. Planning your dissertation over the last few weeks of summer will make your third year a lot more easier for you. Going to your supervisor with a specific topic and plan in hand will give you more time to think further, edit and create a coherent piece of work. It is important to give yourself ample time to think this through and therefore beginning during your summer break will prove beneficial in the future. Making a list of a few topics of interest to you and forming specific research questions is a good start and enough work over the vacations. But you could also make a rough proposal to show your appointed supervisor so you have enough time to shift to a new topic in case the initial one does not happen to work out. Find and read on as many relevant academic sources as possible over the summer as this is what takes up the maximum amount of time. Also, go through some of the dissertations provided in the dissertation yearbooks available on Blackboard to help you get started.
I hope this little piece of advice helps both you and I! I will definitely be updating you on how my dissertation planning is going in one of my future posts. Have a good day!
Peace out! 🙂
