I remember when I went in for my visa interview, one of the first questions I was asked was ‘Why Leicester?’. I did not have much to say then. I knew Leicester was ranked high on the Guardian Table and that it was a student friendly city. Also, a family friend had studied there and recommended I give it a thought. Now, after two years of being in Leicester, when someone asks me that question, I have an entire list of things to share. Coming to Leicester was the best decision I made and here’s why it could be yours too.
As the official website says, Leicester is ‘ a true student city’ and I couldn’t agree more. You can find students in every nook and cranny of this wonderful city. That’s what makes it so easy to make friends. On the bus, on the train, on the streets, in the restaurants, in the shops…there are students everywhere, not just the university campus!
Leicester is also very culturally diverse. You find people from all around the globe here. Which is why it holds so many multi-cultural events and festivals. The university also has many student led cultural societies that organize different events for the student body and anyone is free to come join! It truly unites everyone and makes them feel at home. Did you know? – Leicester holds one of the largest Diwali celebrations outside India.
The University of Leicester is known for the wide variety of courses it offers. And with the new major-minor honors degree choice, the options are endless! As the university very aptly puts it- ‘your degree, your choice’.
I appreciate that this is a stressful time for a lot of students. A lot of you are awaiting or must have already received your results. Have confidence in your choice and most importantly, have faith in yourself. If you didn’t get into the university of your choice, there are a lot of other options you can explore. I will leave you with the link of one of my old blog posts that discusses this issue in detail. I hope you find this helpful.
Peace out! 🙂
