Hello everyone! Following my last post which was about why the University of Leicester is, in my opinion, the ideal place to study, this post is going to focus on the Leicester School of Management in specific.
The university is popular for its unique approach to teaching with its Leicester Model to management studies. The courses at the Leicester business management school waver from the usual mainstream teaching techniques and rather adopts a multi-disciplinary approach, drawing from across the various sides and perspectives of management. The School of Management has offered its students an excellent platform to discuss and debate. Everyone has an equal opportunity to express their thoughts and put forth an argument. You are not under any pressure to agree with what your tutor is saying! If you have a different opinion or view, all you have to do is raise your hand and speak your mind. It is that simple!
The School of Management here also overlooks other traditional methods of teaching. It’s not just reading from a set textbook, writing an exam and getting a degree. The assessment methods include writing essays, preparing reports, giving presentations, getting involved in group work, participating in seminars and lecture room discussions. Addressing your doubts and actively participating are crucial.
The variety the School offers is enormous. Whether you are interested in finance, marketing, human resource management or economics…there is something for everyone! Also, if your interest lies in other fields, there are courses such as Politics & Economics or Modern Languages with Management. And with the new major-minor system, the options are endless!
The School is run by an exceptional staff. The people teaching you hold expertise in their respective fields and are continuously involved in new research. In fact, some of the academic reading you are required to do is written by them!
The department also organizes student formed and led initiatives such as the Quality Circles Project that encourages continuous development of creative thinking, critical thinking, effectiveness, employability skills and provides a true sense of working in the corporate world. This brings me to the final, and the most important point. At the Leicester School of Management, you are treated as future managers, talked to like future managers and encouraged to think like future managers. You are given an insight into the real world of management and the way organisations work.
My experience has been absolutely fantastic so far and I can’t wait to see what third year has in store for me! If you are going to start your course in our Leicester School of Management this September, you are in for an extraordinary experience. Avail all the opportunities you will get. All the best!
Peace out! 🙂
