Hello there! I hope everyone is having a good weekend. Apologies for the never ending title. For all of you out there who want to apply for the Management Studies course and are not sure what to expect, this is the blog post for you. I will be giving you an overview of what your first year as a BA Management Studies will look like.
The first year lays the foundation for the next two or three years of your study on this course whether you choose to specialise in finance, marketing or organisation studies. You will study the same core modules for each of these pathways. It is in your second and third year that you will choose option modules that relate to your specialist degree choice. Also, remember that if you choose to study a specialist degree, four out of the six optional modules you are allowed to choose must be based on your decided specialist pathway. Additionally, the topic of your dissertation must also be related to your specialism. Don’t worry if this information seems a little confusing right now. You will be given all the details by the faculty of the School of Business in your first year.
First year modules will introduce you to the three core areas of the study of management: marketing and consumption, accounting and finance as well as organisational studies. You will also have economics, some basics of computer programs such as learning to use Microsoft Word and Excel as well as statistics that tackles some basic math.
The assessment will include essays, a number of group and individual presentations as well as examinations that will test your critical analytical skills. Some modules assess with a combination of these or they are either a 100% assessment based or a 100% examination based. This might sound daunting but you will be given complete guidance to all the assessments by your individual module leader. You can get extra help through the services and workshops provided to all students by the Library. For more information on the course, you can always contact the university or the School of Business office. Or you could leave a comment below and ask me any questions you may have on your mind and I wil try to help the best way I can.
Peace out! 🙂
