Hello! I hope everyone’s doing well and have had a good weekend. The Sunday blues are settling in and the gloomy weather outside doesn’t help either, does it? Remember when I told you that one of my New Year’s resolutions was to keep healthy through exercise? So…that never happened. As I lay down staring at the ceiling deep in thought, wondering if I’d ever be one of those people you see on YouTube who wake up at the crack of dawn, grab their green smoothie and drive to the gym, I came to the conclusion that I was simply lazy and would probably never attempt to exercise again after nearly breaking my entire body while trying to do crunches that one fine day.
I, however, have lost a lot of weight during my time here as a university student and that made me realize that there are other, effective ways to get in shape and that you don’t necessarily have to get a gym membership in order to stay healthy. So here it goes…my short lazy guide to staying healthy:
a) Load up on ’em greens!
The first step to keeping healthy is eating right. You may sweat all you want at the gym but if you aren’t feeding your body with the proper nutrients that it requires, you won’t feel good or notice any particular difference. So load up on those fresh veggies and vibrant fruits. Think broccoli in your usual pasta or an orange with your morning eggs. There are so many exciting ways you can incorporate vegetables and fruits in your daily diet. You can also make green smoothies or juices if you want to go a little fancy.
b) Take a walk
You’ll be surprised by how much of a difference walking a few minutes everyday can make. Walk to campus instead of taking the bus or walk to town instead of calling a taxi once in a while. It is an absolutely refreshing experience! On days that you have a lot of work or simply don’t feel like stepping out then do some activities within your space. You could clean your room or vacuum the carpet. All of these everyday tasks count too! Also, almost all on campus accommodation sites offer free yoga and different workout sessions during the week. So keep an eye out for those!
I can’t stress enough on how crucial it is to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water through the day to help burn fat effectively and keep your body nourished. If you are like me and find the bland taste of water boring then add some squash in to give it some flavor. Skip on those fizzy drinks though. They do your body no good.
d) Don’t lose hope
I know how difficult it can be to gain motivation to exercise or indulge in other activities between busy schedules. But don’t lose hope! Find out what works best for you and you will be just fine!
