Have you ever watched one of those ‘What’s in my bag’ videos on YouTube? Consider this a written version of those kinds of videos where I give you a tour of what I carry in my bag when I travel. It is travel season and as I mentioned in my previous blog, I am assuming a lot of you will be going on vacation for the Summer holidays. I thought it would be helpful to write this post for some of you who are in the process of packing. I consider packing a form of art, a process of trial and error. You learn from your mistakes. I remember carrying EVERYTHING when I used to travel before, things I did not need. But over the years I have learnt to travel smart and light, carrying only the very essentials with me. I hope these little tips help you out while packing.
a) Be a minimalist
We’ve all been there. Carrying a heap of clothes when we are well aware that we won’t be wearing all of them. Carry only a few clothing items and shoes with you. You’ll be surprised by how many new outfits you can create by pairing the same clothing items with each other in different ways. Carry a few scarves, jackets and/or cardigans and accessories with you and you should be good to go!
b) Be weather friendly
If you’ll be touring around the UK, you must be completely aware of how unpredictable the weather can be over here. One minute the sun’s out, the next minute it’s pouring rain. Make sure you check the weather forecast while packing. Carry a sweater, shawl, a thick scarf and one of those tiny travel umbrellas to keep in your bag at all times.
c) Travel containers
These days you get those cute little travel size toiletries. Shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shaving gel, toothpaste – you name it, they have it. These are so much more convenient and travel friendly and you also save yourself the hassle of having to clean everything in case the normal size containers spill all over the items placed in your bag. If you do not like the collection of the travel size toiletries already available in stores, you can simply buy the empty mini bottle travel containers and fill them in with your favourite products.
d) Look after yourself!
You must enjoy your vacation but it is an absolute must to take care of your health so you can enjoy to the fullest. Carry with you multivitamins, painkillers, medicine for colds and fever as well as an anti-septic spray and plasters and bandages. It is always better to be prepared in case you hurt yourself or fall ill. And of course, keep a small bottle of water with yourself at all times to stay hydrated.
Take care and safe travels! 🙂
