One thing that Leicester has no shortage of is great Indian restaurants, as well as restaurants with cuisines from all around the world. The range and quality of types of foods available truly reflects the multicultural city.
On Monday night, my first night back in Leicester, with no food in my kitchen due to my lack of effort to go to the supermarket or do an online Morrison’s order (which is my preferred method), a group of us decided to go out for a curry. We chose Nawaaz Indian restaurant at the top of London Road, opposite the Loaded Dog. Being honest, the reason we decided to go here was because it had a Bring Your Own Booze policy so we knew we could save money by buying beers beforehand from Sainsbury’s.
This turned out to be a good decision as the restaurant was amazing. The waiters were so friendly and welcoming, and from the moment we sat down they were bringing us complimentary dishes such as poppadoms and onion bhajis. This continued throughout the whole meal, with a complimentary ‘surprise’ which was a dish of sizzling tandoori chicken, and even fruit and ice-cream at the end. For my main course I had a garlic chicken curry which was delicious. When the bill arrived at the end, we couldn’t believe how cheap it was in comparison to what we’d received.
I would definitely recommend Nawaaz if you want to go for a curry in Leicester, particularly if you are with a big group. Brilliant service, food and relaxed atmosphere.
Kayal is another of my favourite Indian restaurants in Leicester. I went in my second year and still dream about that curry now…
Let me know if you have any recommendations for restaurants in Leicester as going out for meals is one of my fave things to do!
