Okay, I know it’s a little pretentious naming a blog post after yourself, but I thought I’d tell you a little about myself before I start blogging properly. For starters, in case you hadn’t guessed it already, my name is Toby. I’m currently a third year BSc Mathematics student who’s originally from London. Often when I tell people I study Maths they do the whole very slightly awkward inhalation of breath through gritted teeth (it’s a lot easier to do than to describe, curse the limitations of text!). A large amount of people will respond with “I was never good at Maths in school!” Or, if they’re a Science or Engineering student, we may high five due to our degrees being loosely similar. If they’re a fellow Mathematician I might decide to transcend (not really sure if that’s the right word to use there, but I’ll go with it) the levels of the high-five and give ’em a good old fist-bump. I mainly decided to do Maths because I really like numbers, I often ‘joke’ that mental arithmetic is all I’m good at.
When I’m not doing Maths, I’m an avid member of Leicester University Theatre (Or LUT or LUTheatre for short). I’m not very good at the acting part, but I write short plays quite a lot. I also have my own show on the university’s radio station (LUSH) It means Leicester University Student and then something beginning with H. I wanna say ‘hearing’ but I’m honestly not entirely sure. I should probably do my research before joining a society, but you only live once, eh?
When I’m not writing short plays or chatting nonsense on my radio show, I enjoy watching films (I like to think of myself as a bit of a film buff). I also play guitar, piano and trumpet (I’m very talented, OBVIOUSLY *cough*) I also enjoy serenading my neighbours through the walls (yeah, I sing a lot in my room, not very well, but I do it none the less!) Being a somewhat stereotypical Mathematician, I also know how to solve a Rubik’s cube, not particularly quickly but I can solve them none the less.
There’s probably plenty more stuff I could say about me, but I think this is a decent enough summary. I’ll probably blog about Maths and my nerdy escapades around Leicester (well, not necessarily nerdy, but you get the gist). I can’t predict the future, so for all I know I could end up blogging about how I won the lottery or something. Although if I win the lottery I may be too busy squandering my winnings in a lucrative fashion. I’m going to go out on a whim here and say I’m NOT going to win the lottery, but you never know, eh?
P.S. (I know it’s not a letter, but I like to live life in the fast lane): I use brackets a LOT when I’m typing. It’s an unusual force of habit. I guess it’s because I’m a Mathematician or something.
P.P.S Cheese toasties are awesome. Just sayin’.
