Home sweet home! Sad to think that next time I return home for more than a weekend I won’t be returning to Leicester after (cue tears) and from my last few posts, you can tell I’m not overly excited about the end of university life as it really is, the experience of all experiences. Having turned 21 this week, I’ve been doing some reflection on my growth over the last (almost) 3 years, both physically and mentally. Physically, I’ve discovered the heights of lack of sleep and how to function like a normal person on minimal hours. Mentally, I’ve developed my ability to adapt to a range of situations, but more so, the ability to adapt communication for a range of people – as if the world needed anymore reason for me to talk. All the misconceptions you hold that scary week before Freshers starts are wiped away without a trace from the moment you step onto campus, that’s not to say that the journey is easy.
From the presents I received this week, it’s safe to say that all my friends and family know how much I love Maths (and Astronomy of course)… below you will see a snapshot (and one my cheeky snapchats) of what I mean:
By far, the coolest cake I’ve had for a birthday ever (good luck to all my cake-buyers in the future) – really is important to have a passion for what you want to study at university – it’s that passion that’ll get you through the hard times in work. The reason for the π-shaped cake is because (not so much of my party trick secret anymore) I can recite the digits of π. I’m a bit rusty at the moment and can only really do 40/50 off the top of my head however, back in the day, my synapses could manage at least a good 100 decimal places.
Anyway, I have met some lovely people at university and will hold onto some of these friendships for more than the foreseeable future. This semester has been a new experience once again and for many things, it’s been strange being on the other side. As for the next two months, I found out my last exam is at the end of May so I’m counting down the days until I finish. Stay tuned for the updates on how my “holidays” aka trying to complete two projects and revision for five exams is going.
For now, this has truly been a wonderful chapter (and semester!) of my life and I am eagerly, but sadly anticipating how the last few pages pan out…
