In my last blog, I spoke about how I am venturing into being a third year Media and Communications student in the University of Leicester. I spoke about having to already think about what my 15,000 word dissertation will be about and mentally preparing for writing such an enormous piece of work which will count as one third of my entire degree.
People say that the third year is the hardest. I would say bring it on.
But before that, I have to celebrate for passing the second semester and completing second year in University. My exams finished on the 29th May, which meant I stayed in Leicester for an extra month to spend some time with friends and attend the end of year ball – named the Summer Festiball.
The Summer Festiball (Festival + Ball) was held last weekend to celebrate the end of the year. There were various events held during the day such as a barbeque, ice rink, inflatable castles, rides and by night, live DJs, music, artists such as Rudimental mixed in with alcohol, hog roasts and a full English breakfast if you could survive staying until 5am.
If you want to check out more details and pictures of the Festiball, then click on this link. It’s well worth a quick glance, especially if you are thinking of studying at the University of Leicester in 2013!
This is the best time of the academic year; no work, being able to hang out with your friends and exploring the more social side of Leicester as a city. Nothing will ever beat first year Freshers Week but this comes very close to it.
In June, I was able to watch Grimm Tales which is an excellent play that the University of Leicester Theatre society held outside in the Botanical Gardens in Oadby. I went to the cinema a couple times to see The Place Beyond The Pines and Man of Steel. Furthermore, I got my CV checked out by the helpful Careers Service staff so I can get a job over the summer while I am at home. Student life is not all about partying and getting drunk in your free time!
So that was my end of year festivities in Leicester. Ending the year with a very strong 2.1 overall deserved a treat, and that was how I treated myself.
Have a good summer readers!
