This morning, the papers online seemed to plaster Nigel Farage’s happy face across as much as they could, presenting some kind of ‘success’ story after another UKIP member gained a seat and became the second UKIP MP. According to Farage, the General Election just blew wide open folks – I’m skeptical.
I remember a few months ago going through a bit of a panic at the thought that UKIP may eventually come into power. However, then I remembered how much I dislike our current government. Plus, the nation feel ignored enough by our current government, so it seems to be a loose loose. Don’t get me wrong, I would very much prefer a weak conservative rule over UKIP any day – there’s not much I actually agree with when it comes to UKIP policies, in fact I don’t think there is any that I could agree with.
It does make me question though, due to the low voter turn out at polls, can it even be considered a victory for Farage, when as a nation we are so apathetic? It appears that certain demographics have lost interest in politics in general, due to it failing to reflect their views and represent the public. I certainly fall into this apathetic category, however I still exercise my right to vote – otherwise I don’t really have a right to complain.
What do you think?
