This morning, as I lay in bed staring out of a window that gloomily presented the day’s grey and miserable forecast before me; I came across a news story that encouraged me to smile from ear to ear.
A soaking wet homeless man with a sleeping bag drenched over his shoulders, was instructed to leave the Central Station in Newcastle, but he decided to sit himself down at a piano instead. Initially, the police involved and various onlookers reportedly laughed at the young man’s actions; however their mocking tones abruptly dispersed after he begun to play the piano beautifully. Alan Donaldson played an enchanting rendition of Fur Elise by Beethoven and some viewers were apparently even reduced to tears.
In response to seeing the video, a school friend of Alan decided to set up a fundraising page to attempt to find the homeless gentleman a home. So far the funds have supposedly reached £1500 -amazing.
A bitter sweet story that perhaps implicitly displays the cruelties of capitalism and its ability to disregard artistic talent over that of academic achievement.
Take a look at the video here.
