My Leicester Award in ‘Online Networking and Employability’ focused on how to use the internet to benefit your chances in finding employment:
Here are 3 ways you are able to do this:
- Be active online – Get involved in online discussions and share posts. As a media student I cant help but be involved in all social media sites. The Leicester Award course has taught me to use this to my advantage in increasing my professional online presence.
- Set up a LinkedIn account – I set up my LinkedIn page at the end of first year but never got round to setting up my profile page to a standard I was happy with. But during this course I have realised the advantages of LinkedIn. This has been the best way I have made connections and stayed in contact with professionals.
- Keep an eye on your digital footprint – Be active online by creating a digital footprint you would want your potential employers to see.
The Careers Development Service will be holding a ‘Social Media Extra-Curricular Challenge’ on Wednesday 4th November. This is a practical workshop that introduces the concept of personal branding and social media. You will need to book online through your MyCareers account. I hope this will give you some more ideas of how to use the internet as a tool for employment opportunities.
