As a third year, I am becoming a little bit boring. In first year, it was normal for me to go out twice a week. Last year, it became once a week. Now, I only really going out when it’s somebody’s birthday. Don’t worry, I haven’t been working myself crazy – I’ve been relaxing a lot, going out for dinner with friends and doing other fun stuff, but going clubbing has become more of a rare occurance.
I’m therefore SO excited to be going out tonight! But it’s not the usual Friday shabang night out. Today I’m going to a double whammy of charity events!
Firstly, at 7pm I’ll be going to the Medsin charity auction! Medsin is a medical society charity that tackles local and global health inequalities -it is a HUGE medical society in Leicester that’s really well established. This charity auction is raising money for LOROS, MENINGITIS TRUST and PROJECT LIGHT. Essentially for me, I get a three course buffet catered by Santhis (which is such a good Indian restaurant on Granby street), they’ll be entertainment and I may even end up bidding for something in the auction.
Then, at around 9pm I’ll leave there and go straight to BEAT, an event organised by some final year medical students. It is basically an Indian night out -but all the proceeds are going to the charity HEALING LITTLE HEARTS. This charity supports doctors from the UK to go over for free to countries such as India and Malaysia and perform heart surgery on babies with congenital heart disease. I personally had congenital heart disease and was lucky enough to live here where I was treated under the NHS. I can only imagine how many children live in countries where the expense for such treatment would be so overwhelming for parents -they simply cannot afford it, meaning those children suffer or even die. This is such an amazing charity.
I’m so excited because it’s basically a massive Indian party to support an amazing charity -what could be better! There will be entertainment, including the Asian dance society which a lot of my friends are dancing with and then an open dance floor where they’ll be playing Bollywood, gaana and rnb music! So I’m going to be spending my Friday night having good food, socialising and dancing the night away -whilst supporting some amazing charities!
