It’s that time of year when your Facebook and Instagram timelines are FULL of photos of people on amazing skiing holidays, playing in the snow, drinking mulled wine, having the times of their lives… And if you’re anything like me, you’ll know that jealousy is normally the main emotion felt towards these people!
For those of us not fortunate enough to be going on holiday this Christmas, get yourself down to Après Lounge on the High Street in Leicester- you’ll be transported to the French Alps, without the price tag. The combination of the open fire, wooden detailing throughout the bar and mildly intoxicated locals, really does make it feel like you’re drinking in a ski chalet after a long day of skiing (minus the achy legs, so it’s a win win really)! The drinks are reasonably priced, with a vast selection ranging from beers and wines, to fancy cocktails. Rumour has it they have bottomless Prosecco from 8pm… definitely need to try that out at some point!
The bar has a great playlist, ranging from chart music to some golden oldies, along with a dance floor where you can let loose. However if that’s not where you want to spend your whole night then venture upstairs to find the pièce de résistance… an old skiing cable car! It doesn’t sound like much but we spent a good hour having a mini photoshoot with it, in between belting out the odd Christmas song. The cable car was my highlight of the bar, making it endlessly authentic and tricking you even further into thinking you were abroad. (However the wine may also have had something to do with this!)
So if you fancy going somewhere a bit different, but don’t have the time or money to jet off on holiday, then grab an Uber to the centre of town and enjoy an evening in the Alps; cheers!
