If you’re anything like me, you’ll have a wardrobe full of about ten pairs of jeans, within which you only actually wear three. Then you’ll have you’re absolute favouritest pair that you wear all the time, wash rarely and would never throw away. Even if they got a hole in, you’d just try and style it out, rather than getting rid. One of my favourites are my black Topshop jeans, but if you’ve ever had the pleasure of purchasing these, you will know that they do not stay black for long. For months, they are a great fitting pair of jeans, but in a faded kinda grey colour. However, I for one am reluctant to spend money on new clothes when there’s nothing wrong with your old ones, and I feel that this is probably quite a common feeling among students. I had just accepted that I would be wearing grey jeans for a while until I could treat myself to some new ones. Until I found a very cheap solution that changed everything…
It is called ‘DYLON wash & dye’ and it literally transforms your jeans (and your life)! It’s a powdered dye that you can buy from places like Wilkos, or I ordered mine off Amazon. You just put it in the washing machine with your jeans and put it on a normal wash, without detergent. Once that’s done, put another wash on with detergent to get rid of any excess dye and ta dah, new jeans! All in all, it only takes a few hours, so is definitely worth your time. I was a little bit worried about washing normal clothes after using the dye, but it was totally fine, there was no dye left in the washing machine And the best thing is it’s less than £5! No doubt cheaper than a new pair of Topshop jeans which normally come in at about £40. Have a look below for before and after photos!
I’ve only tried the black dye so far, which I would highly recommend as black jeans always seem to be the worst affected in terms of fading. I’ve used it once before and the colour lasted for about 4-6 months. I then repeated the dying process and ta dah, another new pair of jeans! I reckon you could probably dye them about 3 times before the fabric got worn. There’re over 20 colours to choose from and you can dye pretty much anything, so the versatility is amazing. You could transform some cushions on your sofa, or bedding in your room, for half the price of buying new things!
So, if you’re looking to revive an old pair of jeans, or change the colour scheme in your lounge, I would HIGHLY recommend ‘DYLON wash & dye’- it will save you the heartache of forking out for those new clothes you wanted, it’s a win win!
