From my previous blog post, combined with this one, it may seem that all my current activity revolves around celebrating Christmas! This however is a myth. I did in-fact have a French speaking exam and a Linguistics presentation last week and I have 3 more assessments this coming week. But all that won’t stop me getting into the festive spirit as I think it’s really important to do Christmassy things whilst at uni with uni friends as this time next week I’ll be at home missing everyone here!
On Friday night, the Modern Languages Society, the Language Exchange Society and the French Society joined together for a Christmas Soirée (Things always sound fancier in French!) We hired out the restaurant 1923 in our SU to host the do and it was a perfect excuse for me to buy a new sparkly dress as the dress code was more formal than a typical night out. As the President of the Modern Languages Society, duty fell on me and 3 trusty friends to pick up the food we had ordered from Morrisons. Note: You will get laughed at walking around Morrisons dressed to the nines in heels and a dress! Our efforts were appreciated by everyone who came to the event though as we had a buffet with cheese platters (Red Leicester included of course), baguettes, onion bhajis, vegetable samosas, pork pies, mini sausages, satay sticks, mince pies, stollen bites… I could go on but I won’t as it’s making me hungry!
After a few glasses of champagne and some dancing to the DJ’s festive playlist, we ended the night at Shabang which is the night they have at the O2 Academy on Fridays (Another side note- Did you know Leicester is the only UK uni campus that has its own O2 Academy on-site? We do and it’s great!) I had a great night and loved getting all dressed up with everyone, it felt special and it was a perfect way to celebrate a hectic week.
