Over the past few weeks I have been working hard on my placement report and 17 pages, 4000 words, 20 000 characters and goodness knows how many cups of tea later I AM DONE. As I opted for a teaching placement during my year abroad rather than an ERASMUS university placement, my year abroad is assessed in the form of a dissertation sized report…in Spanish, so WordReference has been my best friend this month!
Now that’s finally all out of the way I can enjoy my last month of summer (the sun’s even made a reappearance) before moving back up to Leicester on the 27th September. I imagine the next few weeks will mostly involve catching up on sleep, tearing up and down the aisles of IKEA hunting for some swanky bits and bobs for my lovely new house in Clarendon Park and preparing myself for what will no doubt be the highlight of October: Fresh Festival 2014, or in other words, two weeks of fun, freebies and friends.
On Friday @LeicsFreshers/Official Leicester Uni Freshers on Facebook released the lineup for this year’s Freshers Fortnight and judging from the events it might just be the best year yet! I can already tell that my personal favourite event will be Blue vs Sugagbabes at LetsDisko in the O2 Academy, I’m not even a little bit ashamed – I cannot wait to be transported back to the noughties. Zane Lowe will, as ever, make sure that Fresh Festival finishes in style – he never fails to impress!
Fresh Festival also means Freshers Fair. Freshers Fair involves every society going above and beyond to recruit members for 2014/15. Sports societies, performance societies, academic societies, fundraising societies, political societies, you name it – there’s definitely a society for you and they’ll all have their own stall in Percy Gee with committee members there to answer any questions! Joining so many societies was the best decision I ever made at university. I couldn’t recommend it enough, and Freshers Fair is definitely the place to explore your options, consider new things and pick up all the freebies you’ll no doubt end up being plied with (Domino’s vouchers are always valuable).
If you’re joining us in September then I hope you’re just as excited as I am. This is my fourth and final Fresh Festival and it seems to get better every year! If you have any questions RE societies, Freshers, first year or general student life, go ahead and comment – I’d love to help out!
Ciao,
Katie
