Erasmus 3 – Language barriers? What’s that?

It’s official.

I’ve spoken more English than Spanish and I’ve only been here for 28 hours.

How is that possible?

I am hoping that will change as soon as classes start. Spending a good portion of my day on the shopping centre probably didn’t help my case as most stores require their staff to speak English (at least it was what they told me today) so despite starting the conversation in Spanish, as soon as they heard us speaking English they automatically switched to English. I guess I should be grateful that they were trying to be helpful even thou it doesn’t necessarily help me when I’m trying to practise my Spanish. I will get to practice more at university so I guess I should cherish these moments where I can communicate easily with everyone as I know that I will be struggling when the professor starts his lecture on intellectual property in Spanish. On a positive note, by the end of the year, I should be a solid C1, if not C2 (check the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) considering my results from the summer school came back as a C1. I just need to work on my grammar and brush up on my reading.

It should be a piece of cake or at least I hope so.

We went to the Plaza Norte 2 which is in San Sebastian de Los Reyes. The shopping centre itself is huge with a beautiful interior. Below you will find our view of the shopping centre during the evening.

We left the hotel yesterday just to go for a walk since it looked great from our window. It helps to know that the shopping centre closes at 10 pm and the supermarket at 10:30 pm.

So far, I haven’t done anything apart from sleeping and shopping so I’m looking forward to tomorrow since I will be going to see where I will be living for the next year. Let’s hope it meets my expectations.

Like always, thank you for taking the time to read my post and feel free share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Until next time,

Cintya 🙂
