I guess some apologies are in order. For the last two years, I have not been updating my blog regularly. I managed to cramp too many things into my life and eventually I had to set my priorities straight. But there are some very exciting developments, which I am happy to share with you
Back in January I was around 60 percent complete with my thesis. Now I am about 99 percent ready. During our last supervision, I was told that I can submit my thesis, which I intend to to in the next few days. I was silly not to check submission guidelines, so I spent the last two weeks ironing out formatting issues. And let me tell you LibreOffice Writer can do funny things to a document. Once I typed a few words on p. 18 and two images instantly disappeared on page 145! But the important thing is that somehow among all the craziness, which is my life for the past three years, I managed to come up with a 80,000-word document, with 78 illustrations which has been deemed to be eligible for submission!
I tried different writing methods over the years. I even tried doing the “just 200 words a day” routine, but I failed with that miserably. I needed to wait, which is always very difficult. But when the right time came, I was able to write 1000 words a day or 3000 words a week. I am not very good at revisions, but during the process I learnt how to be disciplined.
And that is one of the best things about my PhD journey. I learnt a lot – and I am not just talking about museology theories. Writing a thesis, gives you focus, clears your mind and enables to articulate yourself more clearly. I am not trying to sell anything here, but I am so very grateful to the School of Museum Studies, because this has really been an incredible experience.
Elsewhere everything seems to be going fine. At the Hungarian Museum of Transport I have browsed through an inventory of 120,000 images. We found so many interesting collections, which we are eager to publish.
To all the readers, who followed my blogposts – thank you. There will be at least one more around my viva :)!
Enjoy your Summer!
