The universe has smiled on me
At the beginning of January I found an interesting conference. Though I was a bit late submitting an application to be a speaker, I tried my luck. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my PhD journey.
I am back (literally)
In 2016 there have been just five blog entries from me. I was on the verge of quitting, but eventually I pulled through. Now I am back in Leicester for a very intense writing session.
Let’s talk about my PhD!
On one hand I don’t have much to report as there is no progress in my PhD. I did not have any field trips recently, I am not writing anything. But – you know there is always a “but”
Concours d’Elegance
The Concours d’Elegance dates back to 17th Century French aristocracy, who paraded horse-drawn carriages in the parks of Paris during Summer weekends and holidays. Over time, carriages became horseless and the gatherings became a competition among automobile owners to be judged on the appearance of their automobiles – according to Wikipedia. This year in Balatonfüred, […]
Pandora’s Box
At the beginning of March I returned to Munich, where it all began. The trip was fantastic, really great. I tell you more in a moment, but now let’s focus on that moment when I returned home.
I am still here!
It’s been 7 weeks since my last blog entry. My guilty conscience bugs me all the time – tells me that I should write something useful, inspiring and moving. Unfortunately I can’t do any of these. I can tell you that my pilot field study went smoothly. Research went well, results are encouraging. My next […]
First day on the job
In August, 2011 I arrived to the National Archives at College Park, Maryland, Washington DC. Sure, I had some discussions with an archivist beforehand, but it was still a long shot. I was looking for a bunch of statistics published by the Department of Commerce in the 1930s. He said: “We just a have few”. […]
The research is new, but the challenge is the same
If everything goes according to plans, on 30 November I will start my first field trip. I will conduct research at the Technisches Museum in Vienna. I am already excited and I try to get prepared. In addition to reading various museology-related articles, I spend around 20 minutes each day looking at texts written in […]
Let me cook you a nice PhD!
This was my closing sentence during the last supervision. We were talking about field visits and how to plan those and how to execute those and what we can learn from those. I believe that during my forthcoming visits to museums I will able to find a lot of nice archive materials, which can be […]

Save the date I: 3 June
If anyone from the University of Leicester is in Budapest on 3 June and interested in the history of cars, I’d be happy if (s)he could join us at the Museum of Trade and Hospitality. My first ever exhibition will be opened there.
