This is undoubtedly a cliche topic to write about at the end of the year but I thought I would round off my blog posts for 2015 with my resolutions for 2016. Academically I’ve struggled in the first term of my second year but am very happy about how I persevered and everything turned out alright.
My main goal uni-wise is one that I’ve probably made in my mind every year since starting my GCSEs and that is to be more organised! I do all the right things like keeping an organiser and putting all lectures, events and deadlines in my phone but I still seem to be in a state of chaos when it gets to exam time. I think with physics students you can split us into two categories. The first category is of the extremely organised student, they have folders on every sub-topic studied and start following a revision timetable months before exams. The second group is so absent minded that they often forget to bring a pen or paper with them to uni and although their notes are a jumbled mess and probably half in the bin by May, they still manage to pull through at exam time, however with a lot of added stress. The second group is kind of me. I try to stay organised but I just don’t think it’s in my nature. Nevertheless I will be trying again next year to put in extra effort to stay focused and organised – it will pay off later on.
Another aim of mine is to decide what it is I want to do after university. I am on the BSc pathway which means I’m pretty much half way through my three years at Leicester already, a very scary thought. Three years sounds like a long time to decide what you want to do with your degree/life but I still have so many different ideas of what I want to do at the end this. My first obvious decision must be whether I want to do a masters or look into going straight into work. Let’s hope I do some decision-making soon, so I can start thinking about how I can get to the place I want to go to, rather than wondering about the possibilities.
Outside of education I have a couple of goals too, though I won’t go into as much detail. My personal goals are as follows:
- Make an effort to meet new people and make more friends
- Get back into running and start going to parkrun most Saturdays
- Take things a little less seriously and stop getting so stressed out about small things
I hope you had a great Christmas if you celebrate it and have a positive start to the new year. I’ll be back with more blog posts next year about university life, remember that you can subscribe to my posts below if you scroll down to my bio.
