Once again, the University of Leicester’s annual ‘Festival of Careers’ has come and gone. As one of the biggest graduate recruitment events in the country, this gave students the opportunity to interact with representatives from a range of employment sectors over 3 days.
After attending a prep lesson with the Career Development Service (CDS), I was given a wristband that gave me access into an exclusive tent which housed some big names in the world of law, finance, retail and politics. I was stunned to see such a diverse range of stalls, spanning from organisations such as ‘Teach First’ to the Civil Service. Although I was spoilt for choice, one member on the EU careers stall said it best:
“If you do your research beforehand, this is a great place to ask the right questions to the right people. You’ll be able to walk away with some invaluable answers to uncommon questions, as well as an important contact to add to your network”- (Fabian Bak).
All in all, the point of the careers fair is to give you the chance to liaise with leaders in industry, giving you a brief insight into their worlds. This will hopefully equip you with the knowledge and contacts to help forge your future. Remember that preparation is the key to success; “tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today”.
