So after a lovely few days being home, I am now working for three weeks at the Wimbledon Tennis Qualifying Tournament. Today I had training for my role there as a Court Attendant. I start tomorrow and finish on Thursday (or Friday if there is heavy rain throughout the week). I have been shown how to be a ball girl, how to cover the courts and how to do scoring.
I am quite excited but at the same time very nervous as still have so much to learn about all the rules involved in tennis. However, I am really looking forward to the whole experience. It is a pretty cool job -I will be out in the sun all day, will probably get to meet a few famous tennis players and will be working with some really awesome people. Just need to stay focused and I should hopefully learn everything else as I go along. If I like it, I will apply to work at the Championships next year as a Court Attendant but this year I am working as a Housekeeper, which is basically just a posh word for cleaner :P. I did this last year and and will be doing it again the two weeks after this one. It may not be the most glamorous job in the world but it is well paid and it’s great being involved with such a big event.
For both jobs, I will be working between 10 and 14 hours a day, which is brilliant in terms of earning a large sum of money in a short space of time but I do know that come 8th July when I finish, I will be dead to the world! Still, I would recommend either of these jobs to anyone, particularly students and so for anyone that is interested, this is who I am employed by: http://www.compasseventjobs.com/. Even if tennis isn’t your cup of tea, there are plenty of other events Compass oversea and so they are definitely worth checking out 🙂
Hi there Joanna,
Stumbled across your website as I was searching for Wimbledon qualifying info.
Thanks for the heads up about compass jobs, I have already seen something that interests me.
Am I a student ? No but I wish I was again…
Good luck at Roehampton, I bet you’ll be ready for a rest after it’s over !
