There are two very popular areas for students leaving halls to live in during their 2nd/3rd/4th years of uni. One of these is Evington and is located near London Road (close to the train station and the main part of town). The other is Clarendon Park, which is the area I live in. As this is a little further out from town, I thought I would write a little about queens road (pictured above), the closest place to shop in the Clarendon Park area. Many current first years will also be moving to this area next year so it might be nice for some of you to get to know a bit more about what can be found 🙂
Queens road consists of:
*food shops, including a Sainsburys Local, a greengrocers, a bakery, a butchers and a whole foods retailer
*a whole host of options for eating in or out, including take-aways, cafes, restaurants and coffee shops
*banks (Barclays & Natwest)
*a couple of hairdressers
*a couple of pharmacies
*charity shops (Loros & Oxfam)
*a couple of letting agents
*a post office
*a few boutiques and antique shops
However in my opinion, one of the best shops for students is price busters. This is a discount store selling a range of items, including really good deals on multipacks of food items, such as drinks or biscuits, as well as selling cheap stationary, toiletries, medicines etc. I would definitely recommend it when living on a student budget!
Although I don’t eat out very often, I would also recommend Barceloneta- a delicious tapas restaurant that does really good deals during the week if you want to go out to eat with a group of friends. Another option for the evenings, are the open mics and dj sets that some of the cafes and bars, such as ‘Olives Bar’ put on. These are really popular and can be nice if you want some local entertainment.
That pretty much sums up what there is on Queens road, but it’s a lovely place to browse, or go for a coffee/meal with friends and is close to Victoria park, making it a really handy location. It also means that that if you live in the Clarendon area but you don’t have time or can’t be bothered to go into town to get something, most of what you need can be found at Queen’s road.
