Halloween is looming upon us and thus it’s time to start prepping those costumes, now being students we’re not about splashing cash on a £45 Harley Quinn outfits, so I thought I’d give you a low down on some cash friendly Halloween outfit ideas!
1) Liquid Latex (£2.75) – This is literally the most cost effective Halloween accessory, liquid latex is a sort of PVA glue substance used to create special effect make up. It’s super easy to create wounds and cuts all over your body (just youtube it), all you need is liquid latex, tissue paper, fake blood and some purple bluish eye shadows/face paints. By covering your face with all types of cuts and bruises you can essentially ‘zombify’ any outfit you have hanging around, from a ‘zombie festival goer’ to ‘dead school girl’. Here’s an attempt I made last halloween…
2) Cat ears/animal ears – Okay, I know it’s cliché but everyone needs to release their inner Regina George from time to time, understandably if cat ears are a bit too basic for you then as I said before, you can always ‘zombify’ it to intensify those halloween vibes.
3) Patrick Bateman – Now I’m extremely bias because Christian Bale plays one of my favourite characters EVER in American Psycho. But honestly Patrick Bateman is SO easy to dress up as, most guys bring a suit to university anyway, so all you effectively need is a clear rain mac (splashed with [fake] blood of course), slicked hair, an axe and hey presto you’re transformed into a cult classic psychopath.
4) Sugar Skull – Originally derived from The Day of the Dead, or Día de Muertos – a Mexican holiday to honour deceased loved ones where family decorate their gravestones with sugar skulls – skulls made out of clay molded sugar, decorated with feathers, beads and foil. Sugar skull make up has rocketed recently as a halloween look, so if you’re handy with face paint or make up then it’s definitely a great costume idea.
5) Clowns – So I know this is a touchy subject and all with the recent clown occurrences, but if you really wanna wreak halloween havoc in true halloween style, there are loads of creepy clown masks available on amazon for around £5-£10…
So there you have it my student friendly halloween ideas! And finally here are some fairly embarrassing photos (the cat pout mainly) of Halloween outfits i’ve sported over the years…
