So I am currently sunbathing in my one acre garden and thinking about how I actually live two completely different lifestyles. On the one hand I have my hectic university life where I am constantly bombarded with articles to read, essays to write, nights out to go on and parties to go to- I am always on the move! On the other hand I retreat to my family life during the holidays (which for me is not as simple as returning to my old ways!). When in Southampton I am continually making visits to family and friends to make sure I get round to see everyone, which takes a while because I have quite a large family. But, this is not my only home… just as I was making my move to Leicester (and my twin sister to Leeds) my Mum and Step Dad decided to up and move to the beautiful countryside of Norfolk, right in the middle nowhere. When even your nearest shop is a two and half mile walk away and it takes a few bus journeys to get anywhere you are limited in what you can do. So, here I spend much of my time taking long walks and going on mega bike rides…or just chilling in the garden. This is the polar opposite to my university life!
But I love having two lives! I thought it would be difficult to deal with since I would be going ‘home’ to Norfolk in the holidays rather than to Southampton where I had originally lived for the first 18 years of my life. Plus I thought I would get bored of living in a field (quite literally!) when I had been used to living in bustling city. But, since being away at university what matters is the people I am with, rather than where I am…it seems I can quite easily adjust to any setting.
