Second year, seamster one – Done!
It is quite hard to believe that at this moment and time I am quite literally half way through my degree. HALF WAY!!! Time has flown is an understatement. But here’s a quick run down of how semester one’s modules went down.
- Modules: We has 3 modules this semester, 2 were compulsory and 1 was a module that we chose.
- Social Research Methods: A compulsory module which went into depth in to research methods sociologists use. This was more focused on non numerical methods such as interviews and how to analyse them.
- Social Theory Explored: Another compulsory one. This was more of a historical module which went through key thinkers during the ages starting at the 1600 all the way to thinkers still writing today and their theories.
- Key Sociological Texts: This was my optional module. It basically was an introduction to 18 different texts that different people in the department thought to be very good reads and for some them kick started their career in academics.
Overall, I enjoyed the texts module a lot. I was introduced to texts I was somewhat familiar with as well being exposed to texts that I had not even heard of!
