Following on from my blog post a few weeks ago, here’s a quick New Years update of my travels around the state of California.
We took a somewhat impromptu drive down to San Diego for New Years Eve, having been able to secure fairly cheap accommodation just outside the city centre. Since our flat’s car is a manual, I volunteered to drive and thoroughly enjoyed cruising down Interstate 5 (which in fact stretches all the way from Canada to Mexico) alongside the California coast. Though we didn’t have too much time to spend exploring the city, we were able to walk around Balboa Park, an urban cultural park that houses several local museums, theatres and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. This was the first time I’ve experienced New Years Eve in a city of this size, so it was interesting to wander through Downtown on arguably the busiest night of the year. To finish our short trip, we stopped by Sunset Cliffs on the way back to Long Beach for a few photo opportunities.
I’ve also just recently booked a trip up to San Francisco next week, so Part 3 of Exploring California will follow shortly.
