I’ve not been on the ball with blogging recently, sorry about that. My classes finished a couple of weeks ago, which technically means that I have free time until April 14th, which is crazy! Aaaaaand of course it is crazy, because actually I have 5 term papers to write, each of them being around 14 pages long. I now have a first draft of 3, but it is taking forever and is fairly soul destroying!
On top of that I’ve been away for a week. I went to Leipzig, Dresden and Munich, and I will post a blog about the trip very soon.
But the reason that I went was because it was a last trip with my housemate before she went back to Belgium. A lot of my friends have now disappeared back home, and although with the English friends it’s just a see you soon (a lot of my friends went to Loughborough university, no problem to reach from Leicester), others are a little bit further away. This week I will have to say bye to my friends from Israel, and I don’t know whether I’ll get to see them again because that’s pretty far and I’m not sure my ginger complexion is up to dealing with Israel weather.
My housemate has also been brilliant, she made me do things when I got too scared to and helped me through my homesickness and was a lovely person. I’m really going to miss having her around, so I’ve been quite sad about it. I also don’t get on that well with one of my other housemates, so being in the kitchen has that added risk factor now that I can’t use my housemate as a diversion! My mum came to visit me over the weekend to cheer me up, which was lovely of her. But that’s why I’ve not updated you in a while.
As other study abroad bloggers have mentioned, this is the hard part of being on a year abroad. I feel so lucky to have got to know some amazing people, and I’m so glad I had the chance. That being said, saying bye has been really hard and there have definitely been a few tears. I’m scared about what second semester will be like without the people I have come to rely on so much over the last 6 (ish) months.
But then, I was scared to come on a year abroad, and look how well the first semester turned out! This coming semester will be a new kind of challenge I’m sure, so I will have to wait and see what it has to offer.
So, that’s me. I will post again soon and tell you about the places I visited.
