Written on the 2nd of December
I currently write this post in my empty room with all my suitcases packed up and ready to go on my flight home this evening. It’s the last day of term and the weather is around 36°C which makes me sad as in just over 31 hours I will be arriving in London where the weather is set to have highs of 9°C… *Cries*
However, I don’t regret the decision to come home for Christmas. I honestly can’t imagine not being at home for Christmas and I get to visit my friend who is currently living in Sweden for her placement year! I’m definitely excited for that. The weather there is set to be a lot colder than London so hopefully being at home for a few days will help me prepare myself for the weather I’m about to face in Sweden.
The only thing I’m not going to miss while being at home is the flies. I can’t wait to be surrounded by English bugs that don’t chase you when you swat them. I’m looking forward to the cheaper priced (and better quality…sorry) pizza back home as well as my mum’s home cooking. And of course I’m looking forward to seeing my friends and family; these are the only things that are making me look forward to my 24-hour journey back home.
I can’t believe how quickly time has flown by. I can still remember clearly the first day I arrived here and it’s crazy to think how much I’ve changed already. I’ve definitely gained more confidence within myself being here and I gained a better perspective on life and how other people from different cultures think.
Now that I’ve experienced what a typical semester is like in Australia, I’m definitely going to be more prepared next semester. I’ve come to realise that the study habits I usually adopt at Leicester do not work as well over here so I’m definitely going to change that. Also, I’m definitely going to change the units I already selected for next semester as now I know what to expect and what works for me.
So many of my international friends are leaving this semester which sad as I will miss them and next semester will feel like starting from scratch. However, I’m glad to have met them and now I’m looking forward to travelling to places in Europe, North America and South Africa to visit them.
Right now I’m starting to feel nervous about the prospect of travelling alone again. Hopefully, my flight is as enjoyable as it was coming here. I’m trying Qatar Airways for the first time and I heard it can be very luxurious so I’m looking forward to that. Hopefully, my luggage isn’t overweight! By the time I publish this, I’ll probably be back in London anyway so please wish me luck for the cold weather. Hopefully, it won’t be too much of a shock!
