Hello again! I’ve now had quite a bit of time to explore many cities around Avignon and today I wanted to share one of my favourite trips which was to ‘Pont du Gard’. If you do decide to study in Avignon it’s important to remember that it is a small city and after September it does get very quiet. However the buses run regularly and there’s always an opportunity to venture out a bit and explore more of the South of France.
Pont du Gard
I organised this trip with my friends, 8 of us went in total which was great! We got the bus in the morning (not too early) from the bus station, which was quite far but we arrived in good time. The journey was around an hour by bus so not too bad. We’d planned to stay there the whole day.
After having arrived, we found the tourist area (it’s all contained in one place), you pay and then you can explore the museum, visit the shops/restaurants and actually enter the ‘park’ where the bridge is. The bridge is really impressive and it was a lovely day to walk around and explore. We walked a lot I remember and had our picnic on some rocks under the bridge, where we could take in the scenery. I took so many photos!
The place itself was mainly filled with tourists and it was quite peaceful. Later we went to the ‘beach’ but there was no sand, it was pebbles I think and a little stream where people did kayaking. I paddled in the water with my friend whilst the others sunbathed and after we skimmed pebbles on the water, well I attempted to, I find it so hard! 🙂
On the way back, the bus that we wanted to catch didn’t turn up so we had to wait an hour for the next one but it wasn’t too bad. The bus timetables here change monthly I think, so it’s important to check that you have the latest up-to-date timetable, it’s really easy to look at the wrong one as we found out!
But overall the trip was just really peaceful and relaxing and for that reason I enjoyed it! I think if I were to go back I’d like to try out kayaking, but maybe in the Summer as it is getting chilly now.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog! I start my exams tomorrow, so my time has been spent mainly revising but after these exams I’ll be venturing out a lot more!
