Now that I’ve gotten used to the university more, I thought I’d write about it!
Yesterday, my faculty had a party which is basically a day off where everyone dresses up in fancy dress and goes around the streets and then to the bars or clubs. It’s a lot of fun! I study in the faculty of philology which is situated in the square with the cathedral, the campus is scattered around the city and every discipline has it’s own faculty building, so when looking for accommodation I picked the residence closest to my faculty. Although, I am part of the faculty of philology, I have 2 classes in the faculty of translation and interpretation (you can have up to 2 classes in a faculty that is not yours).
The party started with a brass band playing music down one of the main streets and everyone following and singing along, it was quite manic as there were a lot of people. There’s also cheaper entry to some of the discos and bars. It doesn’t matter if you don’t drink alcohol though because there are non-alcoholic drinks included and the music they play is pretty good and it’s fun to dance and sing along to.
So, every faculty has a party once a year but each one has it on a different day. I was lucky that mine was now and not the semester before because otherwise I would have missed it. For me, it was actually quite a last minute thing because I wasn’t too sure what was going on (Erasmus life 😀 ) and thankfully my Spanish friend from Literature class invited me to tag along with her and her friends. I only knew my friend to start with but her friends were all very welcoming and we got on really well! Their fancy dress was Mario and Luigi themed and it turned out really well in the end, it’s definitely a day I will remember and treasure!
