Hi guys, sorry this blog is a bit late, I’ve had a bit of a mental week! My first week here was pretty easy going, nothing was happening as Australia was still on the Winter Holidays – this was great for me as my jetlag was insanely bad, I’m still only just getting over it! Since people have started arriving back at the uni my life has been a lot more hectic though, it’s like being an 18 year old starting Freshers again!!
I have been on tours of the city, tours of the beach, the mountains, and basically every other form of landscape. One of the things I really like about Adelaide is the fact it has so many different places to visit – you can drive for 20 minutes and the road will change from being a twisting mountain road, to driving alongside the beach. It’s especially surreal as at home I have neither mountains nor beaches anywhere close to me so it’s a completely new experience, maybe it will even convert me to liking beaches!
One thing that I’ve found a lot easier this week is making friends. Last week kinda sucked if I’m honest as my flatmates are very quiet and I only knew one person here and didn’t want to feel like a burden for always tagging along with her, but since more people have been arriving and the university has held International Student specific events I’ve met so many people and now have friends from America, Sweden, Australia and many more countries! Talking to friends and skyping my family has helped a lot too, otherwise you start to feel very out of touch with what is going on at home and that’s not a great feeling, but as I’m meeting new people it’s getting a lot easier! I have ‘O week’ next week which is basically our Freshers so I’ll be even more busy!
